Ms L has been told that her benefits have stopped

Posted by Information Worker on 18 October 2010

Ms L has been told that her benefits have stopped because she has been assessed as being ‘fit for work’. She has multiple sclerosis, arthritis and depression. She finds is difficult to talk about the depression because she doesn’t think people will understand. Her health needs also vary a lot - sometimes she looks quite well and other days she can hardly get out of bed. She is distraught and desperate and although she would love to work again she doesn’t know how she can find a job.

An Information Worker can explain how a benefits advisor can help her if she decides to appeal the decision. The advisor can also talk to her about making a new claim for benefits. If Ms L finds it difficult to speak up in meeting and interviews, an advocate may be able help her to explain her situation.

The Hub will also tell Ms L about support services and activities that are available so that when Ms I feels ready she can call back for details of these. She might be interested in activities or volunteering that she can dip in and out of when she feels well enough.
